Backlinks

Research a domain's inbound links, link quality signals, and cleanup candidates in Screpy.

Backlinks are links from other websites to pages on a domain. They help you understand where authority, referral opportunities, or potentially risky link patterns come from. Enter a domain and select Search to load its backlink profile; export the current result set as CSV or Excel when it needs to be shared.

The summary shows backlink count, referring-domain count, broken backlinks, and spam score. Each link row identifies the source page, anchor, source rank and domain signals, spam signal, follow type, live or broken status, first-seen date, and target URL.

Start with the linked page and referring site

Check which of your URLs receives the link, the referring domain, the anchor text, and the context available in the record. A relevant editorial link to an important page can be more useful than many repeated or unrelated links. Look for patterns: links concentrated on one old URL, a sudden increase from a low-quality source, or a valuable page with few external references.

Turn the data into a decision

Use legitimate links to learn what content earns attention and where a redirected or removed destination needs care. If an important backlink points to an old URL, confirm that the redirect reaches the best current page. If a link appears suspicious, investigate the domain and pattern before taking action. Do not disavow a link simply because it has a low metric or unfamiliar anchor text.

When the selected domain is the current project domain, choose the affected rows and use Disavow to send them to the project cleanup list. You can add either:

  • By Domain for all source links from a reviewed domain.
  • By URL for only the selected source URLs.

This is a deliberate, persistent action. Review the source and target pages first, then use Disavow links to export a Google-ready file when the cleanup list is final.

Keep expectations realistic

Backlink data is an input to SEO work, not a promise of rankings. Improve the linked destination, make internal routes clear, and create content that answers the audience's real question. This gives earned links a useful landing page and avoids treating link collection as the goal.
